Is DIY Off-Grid Advisor free to use?

Yes. The Scout plan is completely free — no credit card required. You can create builds, run the load calculator, use all the standalone tools, and join the community at no cost.

What off-grid systems does it support?

DIY Off-Grid Advisor supports vans, caravans, RVs, 4WDs, boats, cabins, sheds, and remote properties. It handles 12V, 24V, and 48V systems.

How does the Component Wizard work?

You enter your loads (appliances and usage hours), your location (for real sun hours), and your system type. The wizard then recommends the right battery bank, solar panels, MPPT controller, inverter, and DC-DC charger — all sized for your exact setup. It also generates a wiring diagram and PDF report.

Do I need electrical experience to use it?

No. The platform includes a full beginner-friendly knowledge base — Electrical 101, How-To guides, Troubleshooting, and a Glossary — so you can learn as you build. The tools are designed to guide you step by step.

Builder and Traveller are both $25 — which do I pick?

They serve completely different people. Builder is for people planning or building a system — you get the component wizard, wire diagrams, PDF exports, and build journal. Traveller is for people who already have a rig and want live monitoring, trip planning, and campsite tools. If you want both, Vanlifer at $45 is cheaper than buying them separately.

What does 'Founding Member' mean?

Founding Members are the first subscribers who join when paid plans launch. Your price is locked in for life — as long as you stay subscribed, you'll never pay more than the launch rate, even as we raise prices for new users.

Can I switch between Builder and Traveller?

Yes — upgrade, downgrade, or switch tiers at any time. Your data is always preserved. Or just go Vanlifer and you never have to think about it again.

What happens to my data if I downgrade?

Your data is never deleted. If you downgrade, your extra systems and journal entries are preserved — you just can't add new ones until you upgrade again. Nothing disappears.

Can I cancel at any time?

Absolutely. No lock-in, no cancellation fees. Cancel any time from your account. Annual plans are prorated — unused months are refunded.

Do you offer a free trial?

Scout is free forever — that's your trial. You can use the calculators, sample build, learn hub, and more before committing to a paid plan. We're also planning a 14-day trial on Vanlifer.
