We collect and process specific data points to ensure your off-grid system calculations are accurate and your project data is preserved.

• Location Data: * Type: Approximate (network-based) and Precise (GPS-based) Location.

  • Purpose: Critical for system sizing. Your coordinates are used to fetch real-world solar irradiance data and peak sun hours specific to your region. This ensures that solar array and battery bank recommendations are safe and functional for your local climate.

  • Control: This is only accessed if you explicitly grant permission. You can opt-out or revoke this at any time via your device settings.

• Local Storage (SharedPreferences):

  • Purpose: To provide a seamless experience, we store configurations, user preferences (such as unit measurements), and session tokens locally on your device.

  • Retention: These saved configurations remain on your device and are not transmitted to external parties unless you choose to sync them with your account.

• Device Identifiers:

  • Purpose: We may collect hardware models and OS versions to assist with technical troubleshooting and to monitor app performance across different Android devices.

2. Third-Party Data Processing

We utilize Supabase as our primary backend provider to manage secure user authentication and cloud-based project storage.

• Data Managed: Your account credentials (email and encrypted password) and user-generated project data (saved system designs) are stored via Supabase’s secure infrastructure.

• Security: Data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit via TLS/HTTPS.

• Privacy: Supabase acts as a data processor and does not sell your information or use it for any purpose other than providing backend services for this application.

3. Data Security & Retention

• Encryption: All communication between the app and our servers is protected by industry-standard HTTPS/TLS encryption.

• Retention: Personal data is retained only for as long as your account is active. If you choose to use the app as a guest, data is stored locally on your device only.

4. User Rights & Data Management

In compliance with the Australian Privacy Act and Google Play policies, you have full control over your data:

• Access & Export: You may request a copy of the data associated with your account at any time.

• Data Deletion: You have the right to delete your account and all associated cloud data.

• How to Delete: To initiate a deletion request, please navigate to Settings > Account > Delete Account within the app, or contact our support team directly.

5. Permissions Transparency (Dangerous Permissions)

To provide the core features of the 12V DIY Off-Grid Advisor, we request the following permissions:

• ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: * Reason: Required to provide accurate, real-world seasonal solar yield predictions. By accessing geographical coordinates, the app calculates specific solar irradiance and sun hours for your exact location, which is critical for sizing battery banks and solar arrays correctly.

• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_MEDIA_IMAGES: * Reason: Required to allow you to upload and store custom photos for your projects. This allows you to document existing electrical components (such as battery labels or solar controller specs), enabling the app to assist with troubleshooting and generating accurate wiring diagrams based on your actual hardware.
